Anti-ageing Devices....

Ageing is a frightening proposition to most, women and men alike. For women it does seem like a horror to see wrinkle lines appear, grey hairs popping up over night, the suppleness and flexibility goes, for men its about libido, baldness, midriff paunch. Appearances matter in a lot of ways, even the way we perceive our-self. We want to remain attractive always in our eyes and the eyes of the beholder of the opposite sex. Ageing affects other aspects too but lets focus today on the superficial yet all so important looks....

Yet I have seen people who look gorgeous to say the least and sometimes lot better after a certain age the age defying Hema Maalini, Shobha De, Simi Garewal, Our very own Amitabh Bhachaan, and then those who looked far more sexy after they aged Al Pachino, Tommy Lee Jones, Richard Gere, Nicholos cage, Robert Redford,Sofia Loren, Indira Gandhi, Nafisa joseph..My list is very long...

I am tempted to go and buy anti ageing creams, I look into magnifying mirrors to see if my pores are enlarged, if a week goes by without sex I get stressed if I'm losing my libido, I look at Doreen Virtue and wonder how she looks angelic after going through so much in her life as does Rowling....I came to realise one thing , the tip to looking young is staying young in the mind and heart. What does that mean even? It means to continue to learn new subjects, maybe music, dancing, art, cooking, make a car from scratch if you can afford it, Hema Malini is one of those women who lived life on her terms. She married an already married man. She raised two daughters from him, she pursued her passion for dancing , she is a vision to behold on stage as she dances. That's the second secret to keep the heart young, follow your heart where it leads you in love, in dreams in passions.

I found the likes of Shobha De grew more elegant with time and age seems to not touch them because they made their own paths, there is a common denominator in all these people, they loved freely, forgot and perhaps forgave easily, they lived on in the past and let the past age them with its burden, they adapted to change. Once you accept and love yourself as you are, for whatever you are, you breathe easy, you make it easy for others to love you. Once you know you're doing what makes you happy be it painting, acting, writing, dancing or politics,  you stop seeking approval else where, your heart gives it to you. You sleep better because your exhaustion is one that comes from a happy tiredness. You wake up looking forward to a new day because every day is an adventure. The twinkle in your eye comes from the excitement of new conquests, My friends has a new spring in his step after he re-joined college to do his masters after some 10 years of his graduation. He's making new friends, studying a subject that has long intrigued him, he goes to work from there, now he's not lethargic in the morning , he looks forward to going to class.

Life does get into a routine, between work and home, some of us take to exercises and good diet plans but some others live life, they follow their hearts and chase their dreams, they don't have the time to pause and think about ageing, and age can't keep up with them. my friends father is younger than my dad, he quit working some 30 years back, he is on the bed always ill ,bothered by aches and pains, my father turning a grand 75 walks up four flights of steps to his office everyday, several times, his passion for the environmental cause makes him study, work travel the whole world . He has no time to exercise yet looking at him no one would believe he is even in his 60s. He's sharp as ever, so is his tongue :), his face doesn't show his age he has no physical ailments that plague his much younger retired colleagues....

I understands it all about the balance in work, in play, in loving and living, a balance of exercise, eating correctly, but there is more to it, its about being happy. Happy people seldom age, age shies away from them , perhaps that is the key.. perhaps its my many love affairs that keeps my skin a glow and a spring in my step, perhaps its my hunger for knowledge, perhaps its my passion for writing, perhaps its a mix of all three....:)

Find your passion, live life to the fullest, learn something new, smile more, eat less...hmmmm I guess that's the cheapest and best anti ageing device there is....

  1. As they say in jest " do not take life too seriously ... you wont come out alive anyway ..." .. There is a whole lot of truth to this quote above and the passage does tell you the simple ways of taking it easy ... " worries does not solve anything it just tires your soul and saps the beauty out of this life" ... The writer makes no bones of the fact that the most simplest remedies are the most potent solution to an ever increasing complex situation ... nice simply thoughtful work ... :)
